IN MOTION: EATING

BY MICAH CABRAL

When eating roots me in the now, my senses awaken, bringing me to a different world where all movement is felt.

I’m in no way a dancer but I love to move. Seeing things in focused motion makes me feel alive. In this 37-second video, I show what it means to be remarkably present through movement.

Whenever I eat food that makes me kilig, or when I munch on something I’ve been addicted to (in this case, pistachios), my focus turns into tunnel vision. Suddenly I’m drawn into the food, the music I’m listening to, and the movement; the movement that connects them all.

Suddenly I’m drawn into the food, the music I’m listening to, and the movement; the movement that connects them all.

Food that awakens my palate (from perfectly grilled isaw with spicy suka to Toyo’s 12 course menu) moves me outside of my head and into a different universe. I want you to take part of this other world, where my solitude brings me to feel every motion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Beverage, food, and art have always been interesting and challenging to Micah Cabral. These obsessions have led her to start a natural wine business, to constantly experiment with food (while struggling to keep a healthy diet), and to express her feelings about all these through visual art and writing.
